Foolishness - or is it the Folly of Human Egos
The human ego loves a book: “It’s right here in
the ‘book.’ Therefore, I am right and you are wrong.” What
better food for the ego than known righteousness.
On the other hand, the ego despises and runs from unknown
things—the mysteries of life. When the egos are forced into facing the
unknown, such as the mysteries of nature, their defensive protective posture is
to control and dissect. There are no havens of respite for the mysteries within
the ego. The ego only ‘sees’ dualism—I’m right,
you’re wrong; Man is superior, nature is inferior—why it’s
only a ‘dumb animal.’
Of course, the greatest caviar for the ego is God—my
God is right, your God is wrong. Interestingly enough, God/Creation is the
greatest mystery of all; but then again, the ego says: “I have the
‘book;’ its here in the ‘book.’”
I do wonder where common sense comes in. Physical death
comes to all; the sun shines on all; the rain does not distinguish a Muslim
from a Christian—it falls on all. If I cut you, your blood is red when it
touches the air; and if you cut me, my blood is also red. Ah, so where is the
dualism.
The acts of nature and the acts of the Great
Mysteries—of God are all inclusive, no dualism here. The last time that I
looked the dark of night did not cross a boundary and then it was the light of
day. There is a transitional time of gradual brightening called dawn before the
rising of the sun. As I write this I can feel the gradual return of spring from
the dark of winter. Dualism is not this way, its dogma requires an
either/or—it is either dark or it is light. Duality, on the other hand,
acknowledges the interpenetration of light and dark—an oneness of being.
The light and the dark are not at odds and they are surely not at war.
But the ego loves dualism while detesting duality. The ego
can never deal with duality, which recognizes things as complementary not
opposed and interpenetrating rather than mutually exclusive. To do this would
require the letting go of the ‘I.’
And this would undermine the ego’s love of the ego—all very known
territory. Of course, this known terrain is very selective—no dark closet
doors thrown open here.
So the ego separates science from religion and religion from
science. This flies in the face of the original scientists who also happened to
be the masters of the mysteries of heaven and earth—the Shamans of
pre-history. Ah, pre-history that’s a mystery that can’t be proven
and it sounds like duality not dualism. How can a scientist also be a priest?
The ego doesn’t like that thought.
An interesting and most damaging thing that has occurred
over the past thousands of years has resulted from the arrogant egocentric
dualism of science and organized religion: science ‘kicked’ out God
and institutionalized religion ‘kicked’ out all things feminine
including nature. I won’t go into all the wrongs that this has brought
not only to women but also to our beautiful earth and all of its creatures. I
will not delve into this hellish travesty at this time, but will reflect on a
most recent aspect of human’s arrogant egos.
Once again, we seem to be faced with a battle of Darwin versus Creationism
or in this case Intelligent Design. Interesting name this Intelligent Design as
it is not Conscious but Intelligent—a definite ego-based term,
intelligent. But of course, we are made in the image of God—so God has an
IQ—I wonder what it is.
Of course, the ego would never accept that we are but a
reflection, not the image, of God. That would be inclusive as trees would
qualify as a reflection of God, just like humans, as well as the tiniest worm
would also be a reflection. The tiniest worm, now that sure enough does not set
well with the patriarchal arrogant ego! This would acknowledge that the worm
and we are the same. No way says the ego—humans, oops… men, that is,
are superior to all other things.
What arrogant stupidity all of this is, but the sad thing is
that it is a reality in this 21st Century: the patriarchal and
it’s foundation of dualism is the ruling paradigm on this earth. No
wonder the earth is in its darkest of darkest periods ever.
Intelligent Design versus Evolutionary Theory; religion
verse science. Both are examples of dualism, and the ego loves this battle. Is
this the best that we can do in the 21st Century?
I think not… there is an alternative to both—Evolutionary
Divinity.
