The original and pure Kabbalah, not influenced by either the
matriarchal or patriarchal systems, is the reflection of the Oneness and a
“map” of the Kingdom of God outside of us as well as the Kingdom of God within
us. This “diagram” may provide us the means and knowledge to “repair the
shattered vessel” and return to the oneness of creation. It may also answer for
us the eternal spiritual/religious questions and mysteries of: “who are we,”
“why are we here,” “where are we going,” where have we been,” and “what does it
all mean?”
Due to the complexity of this mystical system and the need
for the inner teachings or greater mysteries to be orally transmitted, I will
offer to you only a brief over-view of the knowledge of Kabbalah that is
contained within the spirit of my heart and intellect of my mind. The core of
Kabbalah is centered within the beauty of the music of the Angelic choirs. It
is the music of the spheres of the divine and the heartbeat that is within each
person, within all of humanity and within the sacred earth and all creatures of
the earth.
Kabbalah comes from the Hebrew qibel meaning, “to
receive.” It is believed that God revealed the Kabbalah to the Angels. And they
in-turn transmitted this divine knowledge to human beings. First to Adam Kadmon,
the original progenitor of humanity, then to Noah (a group not the individual)
followed by Abraham and Sarah and eventually to Moses and also Jesus. It was
brought to Egypt where it spread throughout the world locked away within the
various cultures and their esoteric teachings.
This esoteric knowledge is the Tree of Life that is composed
of Four Worlds containing 10 Sephiroth—jewelled lenses of Divine energy or attributes,
Three Pillars and 22 Paths of wisdom that link the 10 Sephiroth. Please keep in
mind that this knowledge and the Tree of Life are never statically defined
things but are dynamic conceptual aspects of movement, change and relationship.
As I mentioned above, the Tree of Life, which bears a close
resemblance to the sacred tree—Yggdrasil of Northern mythology, is outside us
and is known as the World Tree or the Axis Mundi. This is the symbolic
central pillar of creation that the shaman uses as he or she ascends and/or
descends to the various Otherworlds or realms of reality. The Tree of Life is
also within us and provides us with the ability, knowledge, love and power to
become holy (whole). (Remember trees must put down roots, rooted to the earth. And so must humanity feel “rooted” or connected to Mother Earth not in stewardship but in partnership as a part of the earth not separate from or superior to the earth and all of it’s creatures. And humanity must look to the Earthly Mother’s angels for guidance and support: the angel of sunlight, the angel of water and the angel of air.)
Number symbolism is important in the study of Kabbalah and
the realization of the power of numbers is essential for an in-depth
understanding of the Tree of Life. The number two is one of the numbers that
Kabbalah places in a seat of high esteem and refers to the true cross of
equality and symmetry—masculinity and femininity expressed in the form of
perfect duality. The male is within the female as the female is within the male
and displays this true cross by the width of the arms outstretched to the side
where the length from the middle finger of one hand to the middle finger of the
other hand is the same length as from the crown of the head to the balls of
either heels. This is not the cross of Christianity but the cross of the shaman
and the Elder Cultures of this earth. It is the cross of the Earth and the
cross of Venus. It is the “matter” of the Earth and the “matter” that descends
from the Spirit (circle) that is holy.
THE FOUR WORLDS:
- ATZILOTH
or Emanation, which means to flow out, originate, or issue forth. It is
the perfect Divine will and represents the element of fire. It is
the realm of Spirit, God’s light that permeates and radiates throughout our
world. Atziloth is linked to Ayn Sof—God or the Ultimate Nothingness that
existed before Creation. This world contains the following spheres of
Divine energy: 1, 2, 3 and 11 (11 is the invisible non-sephirah, the space
between heartbeats, the knowledge of God).
- BRIATIC—Creation
and represents the element of air as well as the mind’s capacity to
envision and then make it manifest. This world embraces the Divine spheres
of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 11. It is also the realm of the Archangels.
- HA-YETZIRAH—Formation
and is associated with the element of water and emotions. This world,
represented by differentiation and form, is our heaven of creation and
contains the realm of Angels. This world includes: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and
11.
- HA-ASIAH—Action
and encompasses the realm of the body. It is the earth element and the
earthly world, as we know it. The spiritual teaching of “As Above So
Below,” refers to the upper worlds reaching down and interacting with the
realm of Ha-Asiah to achieve oneness or unification. Tradition teaches
that in each person is a holy spark of God and that our true nature
reflects as well as vibrates with God’s love/light and it is through the
harmonious interfacing of the emotions, the body, the mind and the spirit
that we express our divinity. It is here that we repair the shattered
vessels of divine light, which separated us from God. Ha-Asiah includes: 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.
The Tree of Life
is supported by Three Pillars:
- The
Right Pillar of Mercy—Active, Masculine
- The
Left Pillar of Judgment—Passive, Feminine
- The
Middle or Center Pillar of Equilibrium and Balance.
The Ten Sephiroth
of the Tree of Life:
- Kether—The
Crown, Top of the Tree of Life.
- Chokhmah—Wisdom
- Binah—Understanding
- Chesed—Mercy
- Gevurah—Judgment
- Tiferet—Beauty
- Netzach—Victory
- Hod—Glory
- Yesod—The
Foundation
- Malkhuth—The
Kingdom complements Keter, and represents the presence of God in the
material world and the feminine presence of God.
- Da’at—non-sephiroth
representing knowledge from God.
The following is a brief explanation of one of the Sephirah:
TIFERET—Sephirah of BEAUTY
Tiferet creates the balance and harmony between Mercy and
Judgment and forms the link between the two worlds of Formation and Action. It
represents the beauty of Divine glory and light as it descends to humanity.
Tiferet, being the center of the Tree of Life, guides the
Divine Spirit downward and the spiritual aspirations of humanity upward. We may
also discover this esoteric teaching within other cultures:
“Ce Acatl Topiltzin Quetzalcoatl upheld with the utmost
discipline the concepts of the god whose name he had adopted. His people
(serpent) aspired to divine existence (plumes-sky), whilst at the same time
believing that the divine descended into the hearts of men (humans). The
struggle between and the union of opposites constituted the fundamental ideas
on which all laws, religious conduct and social habits were based.”
(pre-hispanic gods of Mexico, pg. 78)
Tiferet is our heart and the Sephiroth of re-birth and
connects directly to all the other Sephiroth except Malkhuth. It is here in
beauty where we experience the “second-birth” in our ascent to spiritual
understanding. In the sphere of Tiferet, the human and the divine become
balanced. In addition, Tiferet provides a mirror that reflects the Divine Light
of our heart through our mind and out through our eyes. It is the balancing
point between the active and the passive qualities of the Divine and the human
being and is thus the means of keeping the Sephiroth (the 10) in balance. This
Sephiroth corresponds to the Eastern concept of the Heart Chakra.
I end this page with the following Navajo pray:
In Beauty now before me, I walk
In Beauty now behind me, I walk
In Beauty now below me, I walk
In Beauty now above me, I walk
In Beauty all around me, I walk
In Beauty now within me, I walk
It is finished in Beauty.
