“My most
favorite time of the year,” Jesus would proclaim, “Not because it’s a
celebration of my birth, but for the reason that it honors the fire and the sun
at the winter solstice. I use the term X-mas as a tribute to the ancient roots
of our present day celebration of Christmas.
The X is an ageless image representing power, the cross and the Tree of
Life, sometimes called the Tree of Fire. And during this time of hope and
cheer, the Christmas tree, which is decorated with the fire of our spirit and the
fire of light, symbolically embodies within our home the Tree of Life. On the
contrary, there is also another reason why this season is so special to me.
This is a time for honoring and celebrating the presence and the importance of
the angels and the archangels. At this special time of the year, slow down and
take a moment to experience their closeness. Let yourself be still, quiet your
mind and listen…for the whisper of an angel. They are here, all you need to do,
is believe.”
“As the
nights grow longer and we spend more of our moments in darkness, we humbly
await in trust and faith for the instant when the light returns. This is an
occasion to bless and to celebrate peace, joy and goodwill to all of humanity
and to all of nature and to all of the earth’s creatures. It is a time of
generosity, hope and love and a time to remember and see the light that resides
within each of us. This festivity honoring Midwinter also presents us with the
opportunity to celebrate our own divinity as well as our humanness.”
Jesus
would finish by saying, “My dear ones, at this time of the year do not get
caught up in the excessive materialism that is so rampant throughout society.
Give from your heart not from your pocketbook. And to all the ones that you
encounter during this season of love, express your divinity. Be as the child excited with the magic that
is within your eyes, seeing life, not as the darkness of what you don’t have,
but as the light of wonder of what you do have. Help the ones that are lonely
and homeless, even if it is just with a smile and a kind word. And finally,
give of yourself the love that is within you, that is the greatest gift of
all.”
