Climate Change
Of all the things that capitalism is guilty of, the
destruction of our planet by industry, small and large, is the most horrendous
tragedy of all times. The sad fact is that climate change is just one of the
results of biospheric compromise and destruction that has been wroth solely by
capitalism. The false belief that material things will be happiness and
security has allowed corporations an unlimited license to plunder natural
resources. It is market driven by the desire of people in the industrialized
world to consume. This excessive consumption and materialism has resulted in a
myriad of problems for the planet—crazy weather, disappearing habitat and
species, acid rain, ocean waters becoming more acidic affecting the foundation
of the marine food chain—as well as for people.
Capitalism has been the root cause of people’s screwed
up values. “Values today are strongly materialistic, anthropocentric, and
contempocentric. Today’s consumerism places high priority on meeting
human needs through ever-increasing purchase of material goods and services. We
may say ‘the best things in life are free,’ but not many of us act
that way. The anthropocentric view that nature belongs to us rather than we to
nature eases the exploitation of the natural world. The habit of focusing on
the present and discounting the future leads away from a thoughtful appraisal
of long-term consequences and the world we are making.”[i]
In the Preface I stated that our present and past social and
economic ills have sprung directly from the dogma and doctrine of
Institutionalized Religion. But this is not the first time in recorded history
that this has happened. In the distant past, religion was once again guilty of
destroying the environment. This directly led to the downfall of a
civilization—the Maya of Tikal.
I journeyed to Tikal in 2004
and discovered that the cause of their downfall was the clear-cutting of the
forests that had once surrounded Tikal.
The purpose of the destruction of trees was to provide fuel to feed the
limestone ovens of Tikal.
The limestone was then utilized in pathways and the outer coverings of the
temples. As Tikal
was a Theocracy, the priestly class demanded beautiful temples to honor their
deities—trees to placate religion. This was vividly portrayed in Mel
Gibson’s movie Apocalypto.
In today’s world the elites and their
‘temples’ of capitalism are no different. They encourage the
removal of what happens to be the ‘lungs’ of our planet—the
Amazonian rainforest. This time around, due to the destruction of the
rainforest, forest and woodlands and other vile desecrations of resources and
species, we are on the verge of a macro-collapse of the whole civilized world
instead of the micro-destruction illustrated by Tikal’s downfall.
It is known that “the loss of forests, for example,
contributes to biodiversity loss, climate change, and desertification. Climate
change, acid rain, ozone depletion, and water reductions can in turn adversely
affect world forests. Changing climate will affect everything. Among other
things, it is likely to worsen desertification, lead to both additional
flooding and increased droughts, reduce freshwater supplies, adversely affect
biodiversity and forests, and further degrade aquatic ecosystems.”[ii]
Thus, the future is written in the red (blood) ink of capitalism’s
bottom-line. The primary result of this capitalistic driven environmental
collapse—the legacy of capitalism—will be death: war over resources
such as water, oil, and food.
Expand/Contract—Breath In/Breath Out
I would like you to take a deep breath and then hold it. How
long can you do this before you need to exhale? Inhale and expand then exhale
and contract; these are the basic principles of life. Why then do people feel
that through the black magic of capitalism that things will always expand, or
possibly just contract a little, but then further expansion? Knowledge is
power. But it seems that the ruling capitalistic elites place limits on their
thinking. If we were to ask one of them about satellites and the space station,
which are both connected with the science of astronomy, they would reply that
the utilization of space, guided by astronomy, is necessary and profitable. If
on the other hand, we were to ask about astrology, the esoteric side of
astronomy, they would discount and ‘pooh-pooh.’ In my mind, this is
very limiting and truly destructive to the ignorant followers of the
capitalistic sirens song.
In previous chapters, I have discussed the potential
astrological impact of Pluto’s transit through Capricorn (2008 –
2025). Now let’s turn to science. As I have stated before the cycles of
the earth repeat themselves. And the greatest cycle is the one that occurs
approximately every 26,000 years. During this period of time, the orbit of the
earth around the sun expands and contracts. In other words at various times the
earth is closer or further from the sun. Additionally, the earth tilts on its
axis over time until it reaches an extreme tilt and then begins tilting back
the other way. Extreme tilts of the earth’s axis and orbiting at the most
extreme distance from the earth occurs approximately every 26,000 years and
results in drastic changes to the face of the earth. Add to this the cyclical
pole shift of the earth’s magnetic poles and we have a transformed earth
of massive proportions.
We are now near that point or at that point that the earth
comes to every 26,000 years!
