Earthly Spiritual Guardians
In addition to heavenly beings, there are also earthly ones.
These are the spiritual entities that have a connection with the earth, nature
and natural forces. They are known by many names depending on the culture.
There are dragons, faeries, elves, gnomes, salamanders,
mermaids, thunder beings, and tengu, to name a few. There is another
classification of earthly spirit beings, which are ancestral guardians such as
the Hawaiian ‘aumākua. I also
include in this classification all forms of shamanic and guardian energies as
well as the Mesoamerican concept of nagual and tonal.
Spirits of the earth are a mystery. Our linear minds cannot
determine the scope or reality of such energies. To see within this mystery, as
with any spiritual mystery, we must use our sixth sense, the intuitive side of
our brain and refer to the myths and legacies of our ancestors.
One way to begin to understand and to connect with these
earth spirits is through the province of wild and unspoiled nature. A wonderful
and de-stressing exercise is to simply discover a field of wild flowers, walk
through the field until you feel the urge to lie down. Then simply lie on the
earth, breathe deeply and close your eyes. Be aware of all of your senses and
feel the presence of the flowers. And just possibly you may be visited by a
faerie. A ‘person of power’ always strives for balance in his or
her life. These earthly energies may be a source of that balance. Never deny
the worthiness of any energy that may connect with you.
Another way to enter the realm of these spirits of the earth
is to become a confirmed dreamer. Dreams may unlock the mysteries within
ourselves that our conscious mind is keeping hidden. And there is conscious
dreaming, which is better known as ‘going on a guided journey.’
This is another source of the feathered-serpent’s power.
And finally, read and delve through the pages of myths and
legends, subjects that have fascinated humans for countless millennia.
