NOVEMBER 2003 SPIRITUAL TEACHING
What makes people tick? And what influences the rise and
fall of cultures—religious as well as secular? One five-letter word—Power.
Power does seem to corrupt, but on the other hand, it also makes for great myths and
legends—yes, I am excitingly awaiting the third installment of the Lord of the
Rings as it is great fun and a great fictional trilogy that hides and shadows
many spiritual teachings.
You may be wondering why the concept of power is so
important to your own personal spiritual path. Power, you see, is what your
conscious mind, as well as all others, is always seeking. Each of our conscious
minds performs a basic function of decision-making. As stated above, each of
our minds constantly seeks power. What we deem as power comes from our own
personal rules of life. Even though they are our own rules, in all likelihood,
they have probably been influenced and colored by our past and our cultural/parental up bringing.
The one constant decision that our mind makes is where to
focus our attention. And where we focus our attention is based on our concept
of power. If a person’s rule of life deems that power is eternal in the
accumulation of material items, including money, then they will focus the
majority of their life on achieving this power.
Along with this teaching, be aware that the mind is viewed
symbolically as the moon while the heart is the sun. The moon with no intrinsic
light of it’s own can only mirror the light of our own personal sun or our
heart. One step further, our body is metaphorically our earth.
Armed with this spiritual knowledge, what does this reveal about
your own self and others?
At the present time in our patriarchal ruled society, power
is perceived as external, materialistic and youthful—all a marketers dream come
true. Humankind, or in the vernacular of our patriarchal culture, secular as
well as religious, mankind, has rightful stewardship or power over nature. No
wonder that the earth is being raped. Isn’t the earth viewed as female? See my
drift.
Where do you see your power? Where are you focusing your
attention? Are you happy with your two answers? If not, do not distress, you
have the POWER to change and to transform your life. The choice is yours.
