THE MORNING STAR
Down
through the ages many of the prophets, teachers and messengers of a “new view”
of spirituality and religion (i.e. Jesus, Buddha and possibly Mohammed) have
been associated with Venus as the morning star:
"There is good evidence that in the time of Christ the 'Star' of Num. xxiv. 17 was popularly identified with the Messianic King. This idea may have influenced those New Testament passages where Jesus is represented as the 'Morning Star' (Rev. xxii, 16, ii. 28), though it must be remembered that the angels are described symbolically in the Book of Enoch (1xxxvi. 1, 3) as 'stars'—a metaphor which helps to explain the symbolism by which Jesus is here described as 'the Morning Star.'”
(The Great Texts of the Bible,
edited by J. Hastings D.D.)

"The morning star carries the title "Pillar of the
Dawn" in Hebrew. Jesus is the "Day-spring from on high" in Luke
1, 78; "the bright and morning star" in Revelations 22.16; and in II
Peter, 1.19 he is to be remembered as "a lamp shining in a dark place,
until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts."
The morning star brought not only light but dew. In the
ancient world, dew was known as the most powerful conceptual fluid of Nature.
Pliny says of the morning star: "Its influence is the cause of the birth
of all things upon earth; at both its risings it scatters genital dew with
which it not only fills the conceptual organs of the earth but also stimulates
those of all animals" (Natural History II.38). Pliny also tells of
the healing powers of dew (XI.37), which in Exodus 16, 13ff is described as
bringing manna, the bread of heaven, and in Psalm 110 is linked to the
conception of the Son of God: "from the womb of the dawn, in dew I have begotten
thee."
The implication is that behind the imagery of light as
knowledge of God lies a deeper, more ancient principle of the divine light
bringing fertility to the earth. Jesus, the dayspring from on high, can be seen
as a personification or channel for that light." (http://www.bibleinterp.com/

“In the New
Testament, Revelations 2:28, 8:10-11, and 22:16 we
find these interesting quotes: “And I will give him the
morning star.” “And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great
star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp,…
And the name of the star is called Wormwood.” [The word wormwood comes from Old English ‘wermod’
meaning “spirit mother;” the herb artemesia
absinthium is sacred to the goddess; absinthe is made
from it, and it gives the flavor to Vermouth.] “I Jesus have sent
mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and
the offspring of David and the bright and morning star.”
It seems both Isaiah
and the writer of Revelations equated the morning star Venus (Shaher) with enlightenment. Remember the Wise Men from the
East following a “star?” The evening star Venus often symbolized a
fall from grace. In Hebrew mythology, however, the morning star, Shaher, has a twin, the evening star, called Shalem, or peace. And in the gospel of St. John 14:27, Jesus says, ‘Peace
I leave with you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.’”

Modern Western astrologers think of Venus as a feminine
planet. For ancient peoples, and in India today, it is a masculine
deity. Vedic astrologers call it Sukra (our word
“sugar”), the teacher of the Demons, or those who suffer from
egotistical delusions and must be seduced with sweetness back toward the Truth.
Jupiter, or Guru, on the other hand, is the teacher of the gods, or those of a
pure nature who are actively seeking Truth, for they can be taught it directly
and straightforwardly.
The Mayans established their religion and rituals on the
cycles of Venus. The ancient Venus worship hinted at in Isaiah was still very
much alive among some of the peoples of the Western
Hemisphere until the arrival of the Spanish explorers in the early
16th century. Venus was masculine to the Mayans; this third brightest body in
the heavens was synonymous with the mythic Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent,
the divine man, knowledge, culture, art and ritual.
“Love was lost to
the world when arrogance and self-will ruled. Lucifer’s Fall was a rejection of
the Law of Love and self-sacrifice. Lucifer is Venus, the Morning Star. Christ
also is Venus, for He said: ‘I am the root and the offspring of David, and the
bright and Morning Star.’ Revelation 22:16”
(Refuge of the Apocalypse,
Elizabeth Van Buren)
“One remembers
that the white prophet said he was the Morning Star which is Venus, he did not say
he came from Venus but that it was his star.”
(Lord of the Flame, Elizabeth
Van Buren)
"Al-Uzza - Powerful One-Arabic Goddess—Founder of Mohammed’s tribe, the Koreshites, hereditary tenders of Her Sacred Stone in Mecca. The Mighty. Mohammed worshipped this Desert Goddess of the Morning Star."

“…a passage from
the Pyramid Texts shows that the new Horus was considered to be the morning
star, when the new Osiris says: ‘The reed-floats of the sky are set in place
for me, that I may cross by means of them to Ra at the horizon. …I will stand
among them, for the moon is my brother, the Morning Star is my offspring…’… the
Egyptian hieroglyphic for the morning star has the literal meaning ‘divine
knowledge’.” (The Hiram Key, Knight & Lomas)
"See, I fill this sacred pipe with the bark of the red willow;
but before we smoke it, you must see how it is made and what it means. These
four ribbons hanging here on the stem are the four quarters of the universe.
The black one is for the west where the thunder beings live to send us rain;
the white one for the north, whence comes the great white cleansing wind; the
red one for the east, whence springs the light and where the morning star lives
to give men wisdom; the yellow for the south, whence come the summer and the
power to grow.
But these four spirits are only one
Spirit after all, and this eagle feather here is for that One, which is
like a father, and also it is for the thoughts of men that should rise high as
eagles do. Is not the sky a father and the earth a
mother, and are not all living things with feet or wings or roots their
children?"

The great Lakota holy man and visionary Black Elk spoke of the importance of the morning star as
follows: “Morning Star, there at the place where the sun
comes up, you, who have the wisdom which we seek, help us in cleansing
our-selves and all the people, that our generations to come will have light as
they walk the sacred path. You lead the dawn as it walks forth, and also
the day which follows with its light, which is knowledge. This you do for
us and for all the people of the world, that they may see clearly in walking
the holy path, that they may know all that is holy, and that they may increase
in a sacred manner.”

"On the full moon of May, with the rising of the morning star, Siddhartha Gautama became the Buddha, the enlightened one. The Buddha wandered the plains of northeastern India for 45 years more, teaching the path (or Dharma) he had realized in that moment under the bodhi tree."
(According to C. George Boeree, professor
Buddhist Psychology, Shippensburg, PA.)
“Shingon considers the Morning Star
meditation to refer back to Shakyamuni’s [Buddha’s] experience of seeing the
bright morning star at the moment of his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.”
(Shingon
Japanese Esoteric Buddhism, Yamasaki)
“Kobo Daishi
(Kukai) wrote much about Buddhism but little about himself. In one of his
books, he said that when he meditated at Cape Muroto, the morning star appeared
in the sky. Japanese Buddhists think this means he became enlightened while
doing the Morning Star Meditation in a cave called Mikura-do. It overlooks the
sea near the cape.” (Echoes of Incense, Weiss)
“Kukai used this
text to perform the Morning Star meditation and Shingon considers this to be
the practice by which he first experienced the nature of the esoteric
teachings.”
(Shingon Japanese Esoteric Buddhism, Yamasaki)
“… it is
noteworthy that among Asiatic peoples the planet Venus excites unique reverence
as the shaman’s source of prophetic inspiration, even being credited with
originating the power to shamanize. Representations of Venus are regularly
depicted on shaman’s drums."
(The Quest for Merlin, Nikolai Tolstoy)
“In many
traditions the Venus symbol of the five-pointed star is intimately related to
the five-petalled rose, which is also a symbol of resurrection and virgin birth…
The Enochian material seems to be closely involved with Venus symbolism…”
(Uriel’s
Machine, Knight & Lomas)

“…the feathered serpent has often been compared
to Christ, but the feathered serpent can also be compared to Buddha because
like Buddha everybody can become a feathered serpent if they reach a certain
point of enlightenment.
Being a feathered serpent, the pluming of the serpent, is
the coming of enlightenment.
But, Quetzalcoatl has a twin, his dog Xolotl.
And the planet Venus is seen as being this god, Quetzalcoatl, and the planet
Venus has two manifestations: it is the morning star and it is the evening
star.
And as the morning start it is Quetzalcoatl, and as the
evening star, it is Xolotl. As the morning star, it
is darkness coming to light, reason and enlightenment; as the evening star it
is the light going into dark. And this is seen as being the animal -- the
animal twin that we all have with us which is very important in pre-Colombian
mythology, which is our instinct.
You see, we have our reason and we have our instinct. They
are both one, and the planet Venus is the same planet. It is one, but it has
two manifestations as the morning star and the evening star; as Quetzalcoatl
and as Xolotl.
And so when you look up into the heavens you see your inner
soul reflected and the journey of your life reflected in the movements of this
planet.”

“The Maya of
Central America believe that the present Earth cycle will end between December
21, 2011 and June 6, 2012. During this period, they predict, an interesting
planetary alignment will occur. Venus will pass in perfect alignment between
Earth and the sun, with the transit lasting approximately 8 hours…For
centuries, our ancestors have associated Venus with the culture hero, the bringer
of peace and tranquility to a cycle previously dominated by chaos…The Hopi
prophecies also speak of the “lost white brother,” Pahana, the culture hero who
is the equivalent of Mesoamerica’s Feathered Serpent…The peace star is the sign
of the culture hero, Pahana. This is the planet Venus, the bringer of all
things to the center…Venus/Quetzalcoatl, the Morning Star of enlightenment,
rises in the east, and the shore where the ocean meets the dawn sky—the mouth
of the dragon—is symbolic for the New Age. When the old cycle was over, it was
said, Venus/Quetzalcoatl would return reborn in the jaws of the dragon.”

of the Thunderbeings, Le Vie, Jr.)

Eärendil and Elwing, by Roger Garland
“... Hail Earendel, star most rediant, messenger most fair! Hail thou bearer of light before the Sun and Moon, the looked-for that comest unawares, the longed-for that comest beyond hope! Hail thou splendour of the children of the world, thou slayer of the dark! Star of the sunset hail! Hail herald of the morn!”
